State or Federal tax form?

For financial aid I have to fax my federal returns to my school. I did this, but they are telling me I faxed my state. The forms I sent over say " State of Hawaii - Department of Taxation Individual Income Tax Return Resident Filing Federal Return" The on each page is shows that I filled out a form 1040. Am I crazy or is this in fact my federal? Why is my school telling me it is my state? Is there such a sthing as a state 1040 & they are confused? Or am I wrong? On a seperate page it even says " 1040 Us individul Income Tax return" IRS use only. I KNOW this is my federal! (right?)

Seems like what you send to them is N-11 ....which is a State tax return...and that is the reason that your school is telling you that it is a State tax return.

You should fax them FOrm 1040....which is the US individual Income tax return.

Here is the link to how the form looks like.... (You are right about "On a seperate page it even says " 1040 Us individul Income Tax return" IRS use only. I KNOW this is my federal")

Reply to Renu V's Post: Thankyou, yes on that page it does in fact say N-11. I have several documents & I just faxed all for them to figure it out. But the 1040 IS federal correct? Because they received those as well. There is no 1040 state right?

Yes Form 1040 is federal...it is not State...You might want to fax that separately....since they are getting confused...
