I was married in China May of 2005. My wife is still there and I support her. She will becoming to the USA on a spousal visa next month. Can I claim her on my 2005 tax return. I also purchased a home there for her son to live in, does that offer me any tax advantages.

As you were married on the last day of the year - for tax purposes you are considered to be married the full year.

You need to obtain the taxpayer ID for your wife and file joint return. If you already filed - you have three years to amend the return. It will be more beneficial for you to file jointly.

The home that you purchase on your name may be treated as a second home - you may deduct mortgage interest and property tax if you itemize.
